Four Cities

As stated in the previous post I wanted to focus on cities of industry from various places around the world rather than simply China.

For the work I want to produce on textiles I have decided to choose Dhaka:

-Capital of Bangladesh one of the main global textile traders along with China, India and Mexico.
-Seemed more pertinent to choose de to the controversial  nature of the industry there which includes lack of basic health and safety which has resulted in many major accidents such as fires within major factories.
-Furthermore it is described as being one the fastest growing mega cities due to its importance to the global market which is in part due to its trade in textiles.

For steel production I chose Kobe:

-Japanese city of major importance which is often seen as the main city of industry due to the fact that many multi national companies, such as Kobe Steel, are based here.
-Kobe Steel is one of the few major steel companies not based in China, although some of its factories are based there and its Japanese factories are in fact based in Shimonoseki and Kakogawa.

For the production of electronics I chose Xiamen:

-Major city in the South of China.
-I felt it was important to include at least one Chinese city due to its dominance with regards trade and industry on the global market.
-Electronics seemed the most most pertinent to China due to the fact that the majority of mass produced electrical are produced within the country.
-I chose Xiamen in particular as it has a large industrial sector which produces, amonst other things, various electrical goods for various different purposes ranging from telecommunications to the medical industry.

Finally for ship building I chose Mumbai:
-Largest city in India.
-Home to Mazagon Dock Limited one of the largest ship building companies in the world and often referred to as 'India's prime shipyard'.
